The deficit of eggs in Europe has created serious problems for the food industry and for the confectionery industry in particular.
Imposed by the European Union rules to improve conditions for laying hens resulted in, that the price of eggs in some EU Member States, including the Czech Republic and Slovakia, skyrocketed. This has led to a shortage of eggs and egg products, in accordance with the «Caobisco» Data, Union of Associations of manufacturers of chocolate, biscuits and confectionery industry representatives in Europe.
The organization said, that many suppliers of eggs does not carry out orders, which led to the closure of production lines and the suspension of activities in enterprises. Representatives «Caobisco» said, that the situation is so bad, that some firms were forced to buy eggs in supermarkets for, to continue working.
Reducing the supply of eggs, as reported by «Caobisco», led to, that the price of eggs in the EU grew by 75% in the last six months, which is fraught with “serious consequences” for the confectionery industry.
The EU imposed a ban on laying hens in cages with content 1 January, meaning, that poultry farms, that have not yet converted their poultry in accordance with the new requirements, no longer allowed to trade in eggs.
